Best places to visit in Pune for one day


Pune is second largest City in state of Maharashtra and called as Cultural capital of the State. It’s one of the most frequent visited destination by tourist in Maharashtra.

Pune City has lot of places to visit. If you are coming to Pune and have only one day to visit some of the places in Pune City then below are top places which can be visited in a day trip to Pune.

Note that all below places are hardly at a distance of 2 to 4 km from Swarget Bus stand or Pune railway station. All these places can be easily reachable by Auto Rickshaw ( Cab ) or by Public transport Bus run by PMPL.

All below places are most famous places that tourist generally visit but if you are looking for some couple friendly places where you can spend 3-4 hrs or a full day with your loved one apart from busy crowd of Pune then check out the post Top 5 romantic places in Pune City.


Shaniwar Wada Palace

Shaniwar Wada is a noticeable name among the heritage sites in Pune.

The Shaniwar Wada fort in Pune, which covers around 625 acres, was constructed by Peshwa Bajirao 1st, as the residence of the Peshwas. It served as the loving home of Bajirao 1st and Kashi and is also significant for the valuable cultural history of India.



There is a statue of Bajijrao (1 st) on a horse in the ground in front of Shaniwar Wada. Inside one can see Ganesh Mahal, Rang Mahal, Mirror Mahal, Hasti Dant (Elephant Tusk) Mahal, Diwan Khana, Fountains. The main part left is nagarkhana which gives good inside view of Palace. This is an spacious palace with its remarkable fountains and gardens.

A well maintained fort with several view points and photo locations. It also has a light and sound show in the evening which is worth watching. Many foreigners do visit this place often. Free parking is available nearby.

Location: Bajorao Road, Shaniwar Peth, It’s in middle of city and within a radius of one to two kilometer from Swargate bus station

Timings: 09:00 am to 06:00 pm; every day

Entry Fee: Indians – ₹ 25 per person and Foreign Nationals – ₹ 300 per person



Dagduseth Halwai Ganapati Temple

Dagduseth Halwai Ganapati Temple is one of the most visited temples in the entire Pune.

History : Mr. Dagdusheth Halwai was a successful sweetmeat seller and a rich businessman. In late 1800s, he lost his son in a plague epidemic. This caused Dagdusheth and his wife to go into deep depression. To heal themselves, their Guru, Shri Madhavnath Maharaj recommended building a Ganesh temple. This was completed in 1893. The temple is a beautiful construction and claims a rich history of over 100 years.



Darshan to Lord Ganesha is almost open till late night. Outside of temple also they have kept a glass window to see the Ganpati idol which is a very nice idea. If you don't have enough time to stand in the queue you can glance through the glass window. For senior citizens and disabled people they have special entry.

Location: Ganpati Bhavan, Budhwar Peth and within a radius of one to two kilometre from Swargate bus station

Timings: 06:00 am to 11:00 pm

Entry Fee: No entry fee

Best time to visit : If you want to avoid rush then better visit on Weekdays and early morning.



Saras (Baug) Garden

Build by a Peshwa, it has a temple of Lord Ganesha and tends to be perfect for evening walks with friends & family.



Its ancient popularity is all because of the Ganesha temple in the park - Talyatla Ganpati. The Talyatla Ganpati in the Saras Baug was constructed in 1750 by Sawai Madhavrao Peshwa and Mahadji Shinde of the Maratha confederacy. There are benches dotted around the park where you can take a seat. Watch locals playing cricket or other sports on the fields. Try to spot fish below the leaves in the pond. There are streets full of restaurants and cafés around the park. Try some Indian cuisine at a nearby establishment.

Location: Saras Baug is located within a radius of one kilometer from Swargate bus station and 3.6 km from Pune Railway Station.

Best Time to visit: Anytime throughout the year is great for visiting Saras Baug in Pune.

Entry fee: There are no entry charges to enter Saras Baug in Pune.

Timings: open for tourists from 9 am to 6 pm every day.



Tulshi Baug

Tulsi Baugh is famous street shopping in Pune.

Tulshi Baug was created around the early 18th century during Peshwa Balaji Vishwanath’s time. The market gets its name from Tulshibaug Wada, which used to be located here a few centuries ago.



Tulshibaug is a heaven for those seeking cheap bargains or even a good window shopping experience for traditional Maharashtrian ware. Be it the nine yard (Nauwari) Maharashtrian saree, fashion jewelry, amazingly innovative household items, clothes, shoes, purses, baby stuff or toys, head out to the famed “Tulshi Market” in Tulshibaug.

Food while you shop ? You can dig in to the misal at Shree Krishna Bhuvan if you get peckish. And if the crowds at Tulshi Baug get to you, cool down with the ‘mastani’, a falooda-like drink, at Kawre’s.


Location: Tulshi Baug is located within a radius of two kilometre from Swargate bus station and only 5 mins walking distance from famous Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati.

Best Time to visit: Anytime throughout the year is great for visiting Tulshi Baug in Pune.

Entry fee: There are no entry charges but you will have to face huge crowd and lack of parking over here

Timings: The market is open through a day till late night.



Aga khan palace

Aga Khan Palace; built by Sultan Muhammad Shah Aga Khan in 1892. Spread over 1756 square meters, it was built to give housing to food shortage affected people in Maharashtra. Kasturba Gandhi, wife of Mahatma Gandhi, and Mahadev Desai breathed their last in the premises of this place. To honor them, a memorial was built in the palace by the Charles Correa, a famous architect. A lot of history is associated with the palace.



This place is well maintained, clean and wheelchair compatible toilet are available. Water cooler facility is available at the gate. Variety of people visit this palace, including foreigners. This is a great museum available inside the Palace as well as big garden is there outside of the palace. Canteen is also available for snacks.

Within the premises of the palace complex, there is a Khadi store from where one can purchase Khadi.

Location: On Nagar Road, hardly 2 kilometers from the Bund Garden and 10 km from Swarget Bus Stand. Parking space is available too.

Best Time to visit: Anytime throughout the year is great for visiting Aga Khan Palace in Pune.

Entry fee: Indians – ₹ 25 per person and Foreign Nationals – ₹ 300 per person

Timings: 9.00am to 5.30pm



Chhatrapati Sambhaji Garden

It’s a large garden with an aquarium inside. There is no ticket for the park but aquarium has an entry ticket of Rs. 20 for adults and RS. 10 for children.



Perfect place to take children and introduce them to nature be it plant life or fishes. Snacks are also available at the entrance of the garden. The garden also has an open gym. The best place to click photographs.

Location:  on Jangali Maharaj Road and located within a radius of two kilometre from Swargate bus station.

Best Time to visit: Anytime throughout the year.

Entry fee: Entry ticket of Rs. 20 for adults and RS. 10 for children

Timings: 6:00 am - 11:00 am 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm.




TIP : For those who don’t want to for Aga Khan Palace due to time or distance constraint then can visit  “Chhatrapati Sambhaji Garden” which is very near from Swarget Bus Station.

    1. Yes but on weekday its 15-20 mins and on weekend it might take 45 mins to 1 hr.

  6. Really, fantastic post about visiting Pune! I hope people will get more idea about visiting guides. Actually, we have to check all the suitable facilities provided by luxury hotels for which we can book easily banquet halls. Well, I know the no of 4 star hotels are very limited. Among all the luxurious hotels the HHI Pune out from the crowd in many ways.
